National Geographic Photo Camp 2008 Begins

May 30, 2008

After many months of planning, National Geographic Photo Camp began for 2008 over the Memorial Day weekend in the South Bronx, in partnership with ICP at the Point. This year’s central theme for all the camps is environmental issues and kids’ connection to nature. Inspiration for this year’s theme came from Last Child in the Woods.

Photo Camp New York was a very successful camp on many levels. These students face so many challenges every day, most of which is out of their control. Pollution, poor urban planning and lack of resources plagues all lives in the South Bronx. The students documented the neighborhood with amazing sensitivity to their subjects and, along the way, become enthusiastic environmentalists. An online gallery of images is expected, as well as, a print exhibition in New York. Details to come.
